Teté Alurralde (Argentina, 1986) is a Barcelona-based artist. Working within abstraction, her practice lies at the intersection of science, sensory perception, and experience. She explores how a mark can reveal a process that can no longer be seen.

Her practice stems from a fascination with small phenomena and traces that often go unnoticed: sound, a shadow, the movement of water, or a mark produced by the passage of time. Her background in scientific research has reinforced a way of observing based on identifying traces and, through them, understanding the processes that produce them.

She works with water, pigments, and layers of colour, allowing the behaviour of the material to intervene in the construction of the image.

The marks that emerge throughout the process are preserved, transformed, or partially concealed, recording both the action of the material and the decisions made during the painting process.

Her works do not seek to represent a specific story or offer a single interpretation. Each mark functions as evidence open to different readings, with the viewer’s experience taking part in the construction of meaning. Alurralde seeks to create paintings that require time to observe and invite the viewer to pause, look, and keep searching.

Teté Alurralde (Argentina, 1986) es una artista afincada en Barcelona. Trabaja desde la abstracción, en el cruce entre ciencia, percepción sensorial y experiencia. Su práctica investiga cómo una marca puede revelar un proceso que ya no podemos ver.

Parte de una fascinación por pequeños fenómenos y evidencias que suelen pasar desapercibidos: sonido, una sombra, el movimiento del agua o una marca producida por el paso del tiempo. Su formación en investigación científica ha reforzado una manera de observar basada en identificar rastros y comprender, a través de ellos, los procesos que los producen.

Trabaja con agua, pigmentos y capas de color, dejando que el comportamiento de la materia intervenga en la construcción de la imagen. Las marcas que aparecen durante el proceso se conservan, transforman o quedan parcialmente ocultas, registrando tanto la acción de la materia como las decisiones tomadas durante la pintura.

Las obras no buscan representar una historia concreta ni ofrecer una interpretación única. Cada marca funciona como una evidencia abierta a distintas lecturas, en las que la experiencia del espectador participa en la construcción de significado. Alurralde busca generar pinturas que requieran tiempo de observación y que inviten a detenerse, observar y seguir buscando.
